大工と雀は隅で泣く（鳴く）という言葉がある
大工の技術で隅木（交差する垂木を支える部材）の加工はとても難しく、
大工泣かせだというわけである
それと雀が隅棟にとまって鳴くのをかけたもの
昔は大工が隅木を加工できるようになると一人前と言われていたのでしょうか？
今では加工は工場でのプレカットがほとんど
大工の腕の見せ所は少なくなっています
というより、かつての日本家屋が建てられなくなってきました
もう今では本格的な宮大工でもない限り技術の継承はされないのでしょうか？
ノミやカンナを使うことも減っているような気がします
今や大工はいなくとも家が建つ時代ですからね…
